“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

When urgent challenges arise, we must put aside ordinary actions and go to extraordinary measures.

We are now facing challenging times.

Around the country, ordinary people as well as advocates and leaders are rising to protect our democracy and beat back the forces that threaten our deeply-held values of equity, opportunity and inclusion.

The Rappaport Family Foundation is stepping up to meet this challenging moment by ensuring that students, particularly community college students, are at the center of any effort to safeguard and strengthen our communities. We want to empower and support community college student leaders to engage with policy and governance to protect our democracy and diverse communities.

The Rappaport Family Foundation is seeking Letters of Interest for funding through the Spark Initiative by August 4, 2017.

Over the next two years, through the Spark Initiative, the Rappaport Family Foundation will be investing as much as $2 million in organizations of various sizes, with differing capacity and scale, to mobilize, train and develop student leaders.

The RFF Spark Initiative will invest in organizations with promising but untested ideas to build leadership among community college students. We will take a risk on an unconventional approach; we want to be surprised.

Find out more about our areas of interest, eligibility requirements and timeline here: Final July 2017 LOI.  Please contact Catalina Ruiz-Healy at catalina@rappaportfamilyfoundation.org for explicit instructions on submitting a Letter of Interest.
